Counting My Blessings Thanksgiving 2009

I have had a great Thanksgiving break! I have been able to spend lots of time with family and friends and have enjoyed my time off of school. I am well rested and ready to go for a few more weeks and then enjoy my Christmas break! Yippy!
(Just one of the perks of a teacher's schedule:)!
Wednesday evening we hosted Thanksgiving at our house with Matt's side of the family. We had his parents, his Aunt, his cousin, and a former neighbor of ours. My sisters popped in for dinner as well. Matt loves to cook so he was looking forward to cooking the dinner for everyone. It turned out to be delicious! We are looking forward to Christmas when Matt's brothers and their families can join us!
Jake and his PaPa.

We gathered wherever we could find a seat and had a great time together!

Thursday we gathered with my side of the family for our third and final round of Thanksgiving dinner. We all went to my sisters house. I think she said there were 26 people in all!
Now that's a feast!
Me and my boys whom I am VERY thankful for!

And I am thankful for these boys too...my brothers Steve and Tim.
Aren't they all so handsome?

And here are the girls...

My sister Jenny and her sweet Sophie girl!
Here are two of my favorite little people...Jake and Sophie. I love how they interact with one another. At first Jake pushed Sophie in the baby stroller and then...
Jake took a ride while Sophie pushed. She acts like a little mother to him. It is so cute!

My Uncle Charlie and my dad letting all that food settle!
My Aunt Betty and my Grandma taking care of Baby Hudson.
My Grandpa and I together. I love him so much
As you can see I am so very thankful for the family that the Lord has given Matt and I. We are truly blessed to be loved and to love so many people!

Thankful For Little Hands

I am so very thankful for turkeys that can be made out of sweet little hands to remind me of their size as the years go by!

Jake showing off his Thanksgiving artwork.

Of course they made it front and center on the fridge!

Have You Laughed Today?

So my friend Stacey sent me these hilarious comics yesterday and they made me laugh SO hard! I thought I would share. Let's face it, we could all use an extra laugh today to help us with all those extra calories we are about to take in!

May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!
Have a super Tuesday!

Lovin' My Boys

I had the best time with my boys this weekend. It was kind of a slow paced weekend so we got lots of time to hang out! Friday night both Matt and I were exhausted from such a busy week so we just cooked dinner and hung out together at home.

Saturday both Matt and Jake were a little under the weather so while they napped I was able to get a few things done around the house. I made my Thanksgiving Blessing Mix for some of the girls that I work with. I also made Pumpkin Whoopie Pies! They were fun to make and very tasty!

By Saturday night, both Matt and Jake were feeling a little better and because we had been in the house all day, we decided to grab something to eat and then walk around the mall.
We went to Wendy's because that is Jake's favorite. He loves chicken nuggets, mandarin oranges, french fries and of course...FROSTYS!

Having a good ol' time together!

On Sunday Jake and I stayed home from church because of his fever on Saturday. We had Matt's parents over again and watched some football.

Because of the Steelers sad loss, Matt took a break from the action and we got a Redbox!
Have you seen this movie?

It was pretty cute, but had some really sad parts!
I am thrilled that Thanksgiving is this week. We have a short week at school. Only today and tomorrow! Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving Banquet. This is where all the kids bring there parents and have round 1 of Thanksgiving dinner! It is always such a fun day and a great way to start the holidays!

Thanksgiving Blessing Mix

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just one week away? I am looking forward to the weekend because I am planning on making a Thanksgiving treat for some of my friends and neighbors. It is called Thanksgiving Blessing Mix. I have so much to be thankful this year! You may want to make this little treat and bless someone too!
Thanksgiving Blessing Mix
2 cups Bugles corn snacks
2 cups small pretzels
1 cup candy corn
1 cup dried fruit bits or raisins
1 cup peanuts or sunflower seeds
1 cup M&M's
16 Hershey kisses
In large bowl, gently mix all ingredients except Hershey kisses.
Place 1/3 to 1/2 cup Thanksgiving Blessing Mix in small treat bags. Add one Hershey kiss to each bag. Close bag with a twist tie. Attach a gift tag with the following wording:
Thanksgiving Blessing Mix
Bugles: Shaped like a cornucopia or Horn of Plenty, a symbol of our nation's abundance.
Pretzels: Arms folded in prayer, a freedom sought by those who founded our country.
Candy Corn: Sacrifices of the Pilgrims' first winter. Food was so scarce that settlers survived on
just a few kernels of corn a day.
Nuts or seeds: Promises of a future harvest, one we will reap only if seeds are planted and tended with diligence.
Dried Fruit: Harvest gifts of our bountiful land.
M&M's: Memories of those who came before us to guide us to a blessed future.
Hershey Kiss: The love of family and friends that sweetens our lives.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Enjoy!

Jake's First School Pics

I got a notice a few weeks ago letting me know that Jake was going to have school pictures. I kind of chuckled because he is only 1! He needed to wear something "Christmassy" so my Grandma set out and found him a cute red vest. We got the pics back today and this is how they turned out (we don't have a good scanner so I had to take a picture of the picture)...

I ended up buying just a few. We are getting some family ones done in a couple of weeks, but I got a few because they are sweet to me!

A Special After School Snack

Today was a very long day for me! I usually like to get to school pretty early to get myself ahead for the day and then I had a meeting after school that lasted a good long while. I hate staying to long after school because I am so anxious to get Jake. After my meeting was over I ran downstairs to Jake's classroom and finally headed home. As I walked in the door I smelled something delicious and then I found these waiting me...
Jake obviously loved his treat from Daddy!

We miss Daddy in the afternoon because he is up at the school coaching basketball so we are usually on our own for a while.
Something so simple made our afternoon so great!

Where Did The Weekend Go?

Well, I haven't blogged in a few days. I really just haven't had much to say and not a lot going on. I can't believe this weekend is over! I even had a little bit longer of a weekend because I didn't have school Friday. We really didn't do much. Whenever I get a long weekend, I just love spending the extra time with Jake. We pretty much hung out around the house and did some cleaning. Matt was gone with his basketball team Friday night so I did run to the mall for a little bit. Saturday I got my hair done while Matt was at his football game and then we came home and made some dinner for some friends of ours who just had a baby. We actually met this couple because Matt sold their house for them. They lived right across the street from us and go to the same church as us, but we never met until they moved! Luckily they didn't move far so we got to meet sweet baby Ella!
This morning we went to church and then came home to watch some football. We had Matt's parents over and since it was so beautiful outside this weekend (after a long week of rain) we decided to grill out hot dogs.
Matt taking charge of the grill! He is such a good cook! I am so lucky!

I managed to snap this great photo of everyone (this was before the sad, sad loss).
Jake was all smiles!
I hope you all had a good weekend too and are ready for another week! Can you believe the holidays are almost here? Christmas music has been playing on the radio all weekend and there are some houses in our neighborhood that are already decorated with wreaths and lights. It's a little early for me to start thinking about Christmas. I like to enjoy Thanksgiving first!

Up...Up...And Away!

This past Sunday I got to do something that I had never done before. As we were driving home from celebrating all those family birthdays, we were just getting ready to pull into our neighborhood and we see this gigantic hot air balloon! They were giving free rides to anyone that wanted to go. I really wanted to go, but it took Matt a little convincing. We didn't go all the way up into the air, but we were able to ride a good ways up!
Here we are getting ready to go...

Up in the air...

They tried to get Jake to wear these earphones because when the fire goes up into the balloon it is pretty loud. Of course he wanted nothing to do with them...and he cried every time the fire went off.
Needless to say we arrived back on the ground safe and sound! I can now say that I have been on a hot air balloon ride! Pretty cool!

(Thanks C for the pics:)!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a great weekend just hanging out together and doing some fun things here and there. Friday night Matt went to a big rival football game so I asked my sister Kelly to meet me so we could do a little shopping. I really needed some new fall clothes so we decided that it would be a great night to do it. Saturday I was still in the shopping mood and I had just so happened to find a $100.00 Belks gift card that I hadn't spent from our wedding! So Matt, Jake, and I loaded up to see what we could find. I didn't really see anything for myself, but I did find several things for Jake. All of his clothes were 40% off plus an extra 20%! He got some really cute Christmas things. I couldn't resist these sweet, plaid jammies...
My plan was to save them so that he could wear them for Christmas, but I put them on him the other night and oh, he looked so sweet and like such a big boy!
Saturday night Matt and I went to supper at one of our favorite places...FATZ! We ran to Target afterwards to take a look around. You see, Matt has ALWAYS wanted a popcorn maker. We have looked all around for the kind he wanted, but we could never seem to find one under $100, and I am NOT spending $100 on a popcorn maker. But it must have been his lucky night because he found one at Target for $30.00. This was a much better price to pay. So we came home and made homemade popcorn. It was really neat to see it popping and it ended up being very tasty!

Sunday was busy with church and family birthdays! We celebrated all of the October and November birthdays with my family.

My sister Allison was one of the birthday girls! She turned into a teenager this year!
Riley wanted to get to all of the candles so he could lick the extra icing off! He doesn't need anymore though, he is sweet enough!

Corban and Kelly

Jake and my brother Tim (both October birthday boys)!

Here are just some of the boys posing for a quick pic. Aren't they so handsome?

Hope you all had a nice weekend too!

The Caramel Thief

Many people told me that in no time Jake would be going non stop. I didn't really believe them because he was already into everything. Boy, was I wrong. It seems that since he turned 1, I can hardly keep up! He is up the stairs, down the stairs, climbing on the couch, climbing off the couch, turning off the computer, turning on and off the t.v. and trying to get in every cupboard or drawer that is low enough for him to reach! Whew!
These last few weeks have also been fun with all my holiday decorations out! Ugh! He has bit off the tops of my pretty (but fake) pumpkins and on many occasions I have found him here...

Don't let him fool you.
The last few caramels in the dish all have teeth marks in them from where he has tried to taste, but I caught him just in time!
Oh, to think of having a Christmas tree up this year!

Our "Spooktacular" Halloween

We hope you all had a Happy Halloween filled with lots of treats and goodies!
Last year we were hanging out with this little pumpkin inside. Jake was just about 2 weeks old.

This year he still really didn't have a clue,
but we sure had fun dressing him up and taking him out!

"Mommy, can I have this one?"

Jake was my sweet itsy bitsy spider!
We met up with my sister and her kids to trick or treat in their neighborhood. We made it to a few doors and then it started pouring rain. Jake was happy with the little bit of candy that filled his bag. He has a new love...

He can't get enough!!

Here are some of the kids going door to door!

The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout for sure on this Halloween night! Daddy and Jake having fun even in the rain.

Taking a quick picture underneath the umbrella!
I never knew spiders could be so cute!
We had fun and made some special memories!
