A Little Resting, Relaxing, and Reading

I am not much of a reader and even if I was I simply just don't have much time to do it. Between work, a one year old, keeping up a house, and everything else life consists of, as soon as the day is done, I am too.
This weekend however, I am putting some things on hold and making time to read through a few things I got in the mail this week. The first is my Kraft Food and Family! I am always so excited to get my copy! I am always anxious to see what new recipes I can whip up. I am not a good cook, but most of these recipes I can handle.
The other magazine I got in the mail I ordered a while back and it finally came. It is a magazine put out by Proverbs 31 Ministries. I always love things from them. I have attended some of their conferences, listened to several of their speakers, read many of their books, and visit their website often to read their daily devotionals. A few weeks back I was browsing their website and decided I would love to receive their magazine! I knew that it would be filled with encouraging articles about being a wife and mother but most importantly encourage me in my
walk with the Lord.
I also stopped by the bookstore at church this week and picked up this book...

I have heard so many good things about it and decided to check it out for myself. I did read the first few pages the other night and can't wait to read more!
So between all the fall festivals and the trick or treating, I might just get a piece of chocolate myself, curl up on the couch to relax and read! Ah, I love the weekend!

Passing It On...

This past weekend I was pretty much good for nothing. I started feeling sick Friday after I left school. I had a really busy week so I thought I had just worn myself out. Well, I tried to rest as much as I could, but I just didn't get better. I was on the couch and in my pajamas all weekend. I didn't leave the house once! Matt went on to church Sunday and left Jake and I at home. He happened to run in to my sweet friend Michele. She was my assistant for the past two years at school. She is WONDERFUL and I am so glad the Lord put her in my life. She is one of the most sweetest and most thoughtful people you will ever meet. She was asking Matt where I was and he told her that I was home sick. So...today (feeling much better, but not 100%) I headed on in to work. Next thing I know Michele is at my door with a bag full of food. She said that she made some extra dinner last night and thought it would make my evening a little easier if dinner was already made! I was blown away and so grateful! What a blessing she was to me and my family!
So today after I got home, I thought we could be a blessing to someone else. I had made another batch of Halloween Bark to give to some more of my friends and neighbors. I put the rest in a bag and thought the guys at the fire department would enjoy a little treat on a cool, fall day. So I met up with Matt and we headed to our local department. They were so grateful for our little treat (after all, it was the least I could do after the saved Jake from locking ME out of the house the other week while Matt was out of the country)! We stayed just a little while and got some fun pictures of Jake and the firetrucks!
He LOVED standing on the BIG, red truck!

Daddy and Jake smile for a quick picture.

Ready for action!

Having fun on the firetrucks!

I guess he is all boy! He already loves trucks!

Our Week In Review

This past week at school was very busy for me. We just about when non-stop! Needless to say I am so glad that it is FRIDAY! I love knowing that the whole weekend is ahead of me!
The weather here has been so beautiful lately. It is usually a bit chilly in the mornings, but by the afternoon it warms up to the mid 70's! It makes it a little hard to know what to wear everyday, but I am trying to hang on to all the warm weather I can get. I know what is coming:)!
This week we spent a lot of our time outside. I tried to get home right after school to spend time with Matt and Jake. We tried to take advantage of the beautiful afternoons.
Here's a peek at what we did...
Monday was a great day to go pick out our pumpkin at the pumpkin patch. We actually picked out a few to put on our porch.
Jake loves being outside and enjoyed crawling around in the patch:)
I think this is one of my all time favorite pictures. I think he looks like such a BIG boy sitting there! Yummy...I could eat him up!

Matt and Jake with our perfect pumpkin.
Our little family.
Last year when we went to pick out our pumpkin it was just Matt and I.
This year was kind of fun having Jake with us!
Tuesday we pretty much spent our whole afternoon in the doctors office for Jake's one year old appointment. From head to toe he got all checked out! He is growing up so big and is right on track for what he is supposed to be doing.
Jake weighs 21.6 and is 29 inches long.
Poor guy had to get 3 shots and his little finger pricked. He did great. I am the one that has the hard time. Matt has to hold him while I close my eyes and ears really tight, but as soon as they are over I'm there to love all over him.
Wednesday and Thursday we spent time at the park! Jake loves to play on all the equipment and would live at the park if he could.
Such a big boy!

Climbing and crawling all over the place!

I think this is another one of my favorites! He looks so sweet sitting in the canoe ready to go for a ride!

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend was full of a little bit of everything. Saturday night Matt continued celebrating with his old classmates at his 10 year high school reunion. Friday night was all fun at the football game but Saturday evening was a little more dressy. Everyone was to meet at a fancy restaurant downtown for heavy hors d'oeuvre and a night of reminiscing. I really didn't want to go because I knew that I wouldn't know a soul and things would be going on that Matt and I don't particularly participate in. Anyway, it was fun for Matt and I to get dressed up and have a night out. Matt's parents came over and kept Jake for us. I HATE leaving Jake. It is so hard for me. After I leave him all week, it kills me to do it on the weekends, but it was fun to just have an evening together.
All ready for a date night!
We missed out on church Sunday morning. Because Jake had been sick all week we weren't ready to put him back in the nursery. I wanted to be sure he was feeling 100%!
So...Matt and I decided that we would just hang around the house and relax and stay warm inside. We bought a few new board games for us to play together.
We bought this fun game...
and this one...

Have you ever played either one of these? They are both really fun, even if it is just Matt and I playing together:)
I did already call my sisters to set up a game night. Doesn't it sound fun to make homemade chili and play boardgames? Especially on a chilly fall night!
Can't wait!

I also found a little time to make this really quick, yummy, and festive little treat. It makes a tray full and I made little goody bags for several of my sweet friends and neighbors. It is called Halloween Cookie Bark. There are several different ways to make it and you really can't mess it up. You can pretty much just add whatever you would like to it!
Enjoy!

Halloween Cookie Bark

16 OREO Cookies crushed (You can use the Halloween kind with the orange frosting in the middle if you want to)
1-1/2 cups Mini Pretzel Twists (coarsely broken)
1lb. White Baking Chocolate (I used white chocolate chips)
1 cup Candy Corn (I used Reece's Pieces instead)
1/4 cup Brown and Orange Candy Sprinkles
Spread cookies, pretzels and 3/4 cup candy corn/Reece's pieces onto 13x9 inch lightly greased baking sheet or pan.Place chocolate in small heavy saucepan. Cook on low heat until completely melted, stirring constantly.Drizzle over cookie mixture. Spread with spatula to evenly coat all ingredients. Top with candy corn/Reece's pieces and sprinkles. Lightly press into chocolate mixture to secure.Cool until firm, then break into pieces. Store in airtight container at room temperature.Makes 20 servings, about 1/3 cup each.
Happy Halloween!
Boo!

Full Of Surprises Friday

These last few weeks have just been pretty stressful around our house. Matt was gone all last week which left me with a really busy schedule and this week I guess school just wore me out (and I even had 2 days off)! Of course Jake has been sick all week, we had his birthday party this past Sunday, and I haven't felt the best this week either! Whew! But all is well now because it is Friday and to make things a little better, I got home from school this afternoon and found these waiting for me...
Aren't the gorgeous? I love my husband!
How sweet and thoughtful!
Tonight Jake and I got to spend some down time together. He is feeling slightly better today thankfully. (Matt has his 10 year high school reunion this weekend. The plan was for everyone to meet at the high school tonight for the football game. Families were invited to come and get in on the fun, but with it being so cold and so late and with Jake being sick, I stayed at home tonight, but will get to go out with just Matt tomorrow for a fancy dinner.) Anyway...Jake and I played for a while (with all of his new birthday toys of course), then he fell asleep on me as I was feeding him dinner and we both slept for an hour! He doesn't really like to sit and cuddle anymore, so I loved it! We then needed something sweet to eat so we made some brownies to enjoy!
Here is Jake helping me stir:)

Reading the directions to make sure they will be tasty and still a little gooey:)
I also received one other very sweet and special surprise today from my sweet friend Stacey. Y'all I could have cried. Stacey and her husband, Brian, came to Jake's party the other day and ended up taking lots of pictures for me. I was dying to get them back so I could see how they turned out. Stacey came up to my class this afternoon and brought me this...

She put together a whole book filled with sweet pictures for us to always remember his very special day! I have looked through it so many times! I love it and am so thankful for her sweet friendship! It is beautiful and I will treasure it forever!
Thank You!

What A "ONE"derful Year!

Today is a very special day in our house. A day I can't believe is here. Today is Jake's first birthday. It is hard to believe that one year ago today my life completely changed. I had no idea I could love someone so much or that I would love being a mommy so much!
This past year has been so special and I have loved every minute!
Today I was lucky enough to have the day off of work. I knew that I wanted to spend the day with my baby! We had plans to get up and go out for a special breakfast at Panera Bread and then do a little shopping at Toys R Us, but that all changed when Jake woke up this morning with a fever of 101.3! He has actually missed all week at school and has been fighting a fever since Sunday. Come to find out after our doctor visit yesterday that he has hand, foot and mouth disease. Because it is viral, it just has to run its course. Jake has rarely been sick so it was sad to see him so sick on his birthday.
Needless to say, we didn't leave the house, in fact I didn't even get him out of his p.j's all day!
We cuddled a lot together and we can celebrate with our birthday toy shopping later.
Because we couldn't go out today, Matt brought some of the fun home to us. He came back with cinnamon crunch bagels for us to eat! Jake has a few sores in his mouth, so he didn't eat much, but it was sweet of Matt to get our favorites!

Being home gave us time to get into some of Jake's birthday toys that he got from his party!
Between napping with mommy and a few tears from just feeling bad,
we managed to get a quick smile!
I loved spending the day with my BIG 1 Year Old!

Jake and mommy having a special day together!

I can't believe you are one now! You are so big and so smart!
You are learning new things everyday and are so very special to me!
You are the light of my life and I can't imagine life without you!
Happy Birthday, sweet boy! Mommy loves you so much!
To the moon and back, I will love you forever!
XOXOXOXOXOXOX

Let The Celebration Begin!

This weekend was an extra special one around our house. Not only did Daddy make is safely back from Africa, but he made it back just in time to celebrate Jake's first birthday. This past Sunday we invited our family and friends over to our pool and had a big birthday bash!
Well, the pool was closed but there was plenty of room for some fun!
We decided on a "bug" themed party. We had pizza (which Jake loves), chips, and what would be a bug birthday without a dirt cake?
Happy Birthday to my big 1 year old!
This was Jake's cake to make a mess out of:)
Jake and Daddy enjoying the pizza party.
So many gifts to open!
Books, toys, clothes and more toys! Yeah! Lot's of fun to be had!
Patiently waiting for the cake to get to his tray.

Ready to dig in!

Jake's official big day is this coming Thursday. I took the day off of school and we are going to get to hang out together. I can't believe a year has already gone by! You are my special boy and I love you to pieces!

Happy Birthday To You!

Our Groovy Weekend!

What a weekend we had! It was filled with lots of family and lots of fun.
Saturday night Jake and I met my grandparents at IHOP. This is one of my new favorite places to eat! It had been years since we ate at one, but lately I have eaten there what seems like at least once a week! I love pancakes and they have a special going on right now where you can get all you can eat pancakes for just $4.99! Let me just say, I get my money's worth:) I love me some pancakes. I think each IHOP may be a little different, but the one that is closest to us allows kids to eat free every night! Jake loves some pancakes too!
We love eating breakfast for supper!
Grandpa, Grandma and Jake trying to smile after all those pancakes:)!
We don't get to go out to eat with them very often so this was an extra special treat! We loved it!
My sister Allison spent the weekend with us so we thought it would be fun to stop by Michael's to pick out a little craft to work on together.
Since I had never tie dyed anything we thought it would be fun to give it a try!
It was a little messy, but lots of fun (we have stained fingers to prove it).
Here are a few of our finished products...we even tie dyed one of Jake's onesies!
While we were at Michael's we looked at all of the fun fall decorations. I saw these cute little bags for $0.50 in one of the sale bins and thought they would be cute for Jake's teachers at school.
Last year I found a cute little fall trail mix recipe so I might fill these little goody bags with it!
We also stopped by Wal-mart to do a little grocery shopping and I saw these cute Halloween jammies. I LOVE sweet jammies! Jake has so many pairs that his drawer doesn't even shut, but every time I see a cute pair I can't help but snatch them up! These were just $6.00 and the ghosts glow in the dark! How fun is that?!?!?!
Trick or Treat:)
Yummy...I could eat this little treat up in a heartbeat.
(Look at his little legs. This is the way he sits all of the time. Love it!)
And then last night my mom invited us to a family picnic at their church. The weather was just perfect! We ate hamburgers and hot dogs while a bunch of kids played soccer and football.
Grammy with Jake and cousin Hudson.

Jake wanted to get in on some of the football action! His daddy would be proud!
Maybe next time!
Hope you had a great weekend too!
