Fun For Fall!

The leaves are falling, the days are getting shorter, and the crisp air is here. I am definitely a summertime girl, but the changing of another season is here. I have a few of my favorite fall/holiday things I would like to share with you.

1.) I love going to the pumpkin patch and picking out a pumpkin for my porch. We always have to pick just the right one! We look for the biggest, the roundest and the orangest! We always go to the same patch every year and I believe the truck arrived last weekend! This time last year, I looked like I swallowed a pumpkin, but this year I will be taking my sweet little pumpkin and I can't wait!

2.) I love burning candles in my house, especially around this time of year. I have two that I absolutely love! I have a apple cinnamon candle from the Yankee Candle shop and I have a yummy smelling pumpkin scented candle. I have used them several years in a row now and they are almost burned out. I think I will be making a trip to the candle store very soon!

3.) This is my favorite thing to drink over the holidays! I don't drink a lot of soda, but this is so good! It only comes out around the holidays. Matt saw it out the other day at the grocery store and bought us a pack. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out!

4.) Would fall be complete without caramel apples? Each year I buy some apples and some caramel to dip them into. Yes, I know it is much easier to just buy the carton of caramel and dip slices of apples, but there is just something fun and delicious (and messy) about them being on the stick!

5.) I have one more thing I want to share. The other day I was looking up some activities for my class to work on over the holidays and I found this great website. It is alphamom.com. Now, there is tons of information on this site, but I was in the holiday section and there were so many cute and easy holiday ideas! I thought this was a GREAT idea for all that leftover Halloween candy and I also loved this one for Thanksgiving!

Happy Fall To All!

Apples Galore

This past week at school my class celebrated Johnny Appleseed! Tomorrow is Johnny Appleseed's 235 birthday! We talked about how Johnny Appleseed was a Christian. He not only spread apple seeds, but also spread the seeds of the Gospel everywhere he went! We also had some fun doing apple crafts, apple taste testing and today we made homemade applesauce! It turned out pretty yummy if I do say so myself!
A few weeks ago I used some apples that I had at my house and made apple bread. I wanted to share the recipe with you. This weekend in our area it is supposed to be cloudy, cool, and rainy, so I may try to make a few more loaves to stick in the freezer!

It makes a good fall treat!

Awesome Apple Bread

(2 loaves)

1 cup oil
3 eggs
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups apples (diced and peeled)
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Directions:
Combine and set aside the oil, eggs, sugar and vanilla. Sift flour, cinnamon, soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to the mixture gradually. Add apples and nuts. Bake in 2 regular loaf pans for 1 1/2 hours at 300*F. Cool 10 minutes in the pan. Sprinkle with sugar, if desired.

Enjoy!

They Are Precious In His Sight

What does the continent of Africa...

And a bunch of soccer balls have in common?
No clue? Well let me tell you.
For the past several weeks the 3rd grade classes from my school have been collecting soccer balls for children in Kenya. In just a few weeks our church will be sending a team of 14 people to share the Gospel with people half way around the world! They will hold Bible studies for both men and women, evangelize and prayer walk through several different villages, and hold Vacation Bible School for the children. While holding VBS for the kids, the team will use soccer as a tool to engage the kids and share the Gospel with them! So obviously, the need for soccer balls is great! The deadline for the soccer balls to be turned in is tomorrow and so far we have collected over 40 balls! Praise the Lord!

One of the people going on this mission trip is my husband. He is going to be able to use the gift the Lord gave him of working and reaching out to kids to plan the games for VBS. He will also be working with the teachers of the local school there to teach them how to teach P.E! He is very excited about the opportunity the Lord has given him!

Today he stopped by my class to share a little bit more about his trip and to show my students a short video of some of the kids there. They colored Kenya flags and tomorrow we will be writing pen pal letters for him to take to the school kids there!

It is neat for my kids to learn now that God might not call us all to Africa, but even when you are young, God can use us! Even if it is just sending a soccer ball across the world!

Pray, Send, Go!

Go Steelers!

As I have mentioned before, our Sunday afternoons this time of year revolve around football. Steeler football to be exact.
Here are a few snapshots of this past weekend, of course before the loss:(
You don't want to see the after pictures. Ha ha!

$4.00 Fun!

This weekend we pretty much stayed around the house. I wasn't sure if Jake was feeling 100% so we just played and spent some time together. On Saturday I found out there was a children's consignment sale at a church right up the road from me, so I did take some time to run up there. I didn't really need anything, but I did find one little treasure! I found a kids basketball goal, in fairly good condition and it was only $4.00! Now, I know that Jake is a little small, but with daddy's help, it provided lots of fun for the day!
He just wants to shoot over and over!
I'm sure it won't be long before he can do it by himself. He is getting lots of practice!
And guess who took some steps this weekend?
I could tell that he was keeping his balance better and then off he went!
He can only take like two steps before he falls, but I think he is getting it!
Yeah! I am so proud of him!

The Results Are In...

After cutting, sorting, and planning, our first trip to Harris Teeter wasn't to shabby. Now, I know many of you out there can do WAY better, but be patient, I am still learning. Here is a look at some of the things we got. All this for about $20.00.
Cake mixes, tooth paste, 6 boxes of granola bars, pop tarts, jelly, salad dressings, baby food, snack foods and so much more! And yes, I finally got a FREE milk!
I really need to build back up my coupon stash. We were a little low this time. Guess we will start buying several Sunday papers at a time again!
We are back on the coupon wagon!

Ready, Set...It's Coupon Time

It's that time again. Grocery stores around our area are tripling coupons this week. Matt and I have slacked off a little when it comes to couponing. First, it is often hard to find the time to cut and organize them. Second we tripled so much when we first got hooked that we ran out of storage space. Third, a new super Walmart opened up not to far from us which allows us to shop pretty cheap when we don't have coupons. A lady I work with is hooked on coupons and has got me excited again. She told me about a website that I wanted to share with you. It actually does a lot of the work for you. It can print out a list of all the freebies and nearly free items that you can get at several different stores in your area. I checked it out tonight and it seems pretty nifty. I haven't explored it a ton, but you may want to check it out. It is www.southersavers.com. Now some of you coupon queens have probably already heard of it and know a ton more than me, but if you are just figuring all these coupon tricks out, you may want to take a look! I just spent the last long while cutting, organizing and loading up my binder! I will let you know how we do! Happy shopping to me!

Officially 11 Months

Here we are again! Posting about my little man's special day! Jake is officially 11 months old today! My, how time flies! We have been very busy these last few weeks getting back into our school routine, so every day goes by so fast. Our next stop will be the big ONE! I have already been planning a fun little birthday party to celebrate his big day!

Jake loves to be outside. Every afternoon we spend time finding airplanes, watching trucks drive by, blowing bubbles and of course looking at all the doggies that walk down the sidewalk! He isn't walking yet, so it is a little hard to get around on the cement. His poor little knees get scratched up, but that doesn't stop him. He has learned to get around using his hands and feet!
He has now learned to "wink" and loves to play ball with daddy using his new baseball bat.

He is just so sweet and I love him dearly!
I am blessed beyond!!!

The County Fair

This weekend the fair came to our town! Matt, Jake and I invited my sisters and brother to come with us and have some fun. We had a beautiful weekend here so we took advantage of it and spent the afternoon taking it all in. We had so much fun! Here are some pics of our day...

No one had been to a county fair except for me before. I had been to the one in Winston Salem a couple of years ago and knew how much fun it was!

So much to see and do...

(No, Jenny, we do not know the cow's name)
This cow was being milked. We decided not to take part in that but...

Matt did have fun feeding these guys!
Look at that sheep's horns and curly hair!
Taking a quick pic at the petting zoo

Jake LOVED all the animals!
Kelly, Allison and Jake looking at just some of the turkeys that were there.
Jake trying out a tractor!

And this was my favorite part...
Robinson's Racing and Swimming Pigs!
The fastest pig won an Oreo cookie at the finish line. This is how they got them to race so fast!

And they raced across the pool too!

Jake's first carousel ride.

He wasn't sure about it at first, but he held on tight and then didn't want to get off!
And Tim, Kelly and Allison enjoyed rides like this...
We all had a great time together at the fair!
Can't wait till next year!

Labor Day Weekend

Having a three day weekend was wonderful. It was a nice little breather from the crazy busy life we have. I spent a good part of the day Saturday cleaning so that I would have all day Monday to relax and enjoy some time with my boys!
Matt's brother Josh and his family came for a visit from Florida. We were able to spend some time together and meet our newest niece Sarah for the first time!
Matt had a great time seeing his brother.

My sister in law, Katie with Sarah Kate enjoying the beautiful weather we had this weekend!
Jake meeting his newest cousin.
And of course there was plenty of corn hole going on...
Jake just wanted one bite of Rebekah's hotdog...but he didn't have a chance!

A quick snapshot of Jake and Rebekah in their jammies ready to go to bed.

It was definitely fun for Meemaw and Papa to have some of their grand kids together!
We can't wait to see everyone again!
And of course we finished out our weekend with our free dinner at Chick-fil-a.

Here we are all decked out in our Steeler gear. We are planning to get Jake his own jersey this week before the big game Thursday night. He had a few last season, but he has grown a lot since then!

We had a great weekend together with our family.

I only wish we could have a three day weekend every week!

A Tasty Treat For Breakfast

This past Sunday our Sunday school class had a special breakfast for everyone to enjoy. We all brought a little something to share. I brought this delicious breakfast treat...
It is called honey bun cake. I had made it before and it seemed to be a hit, so I thought I would make it again. It is really moist and very easy to make. I thought I would share the recipe just in case you want to give it a try...
ENJOY!!!

3/4 c. cooking oil
2/3 c. water
