Counting My Blessings

My sister Jenny wrote a post today about some of her unexpected blessings this week. I decided to piggyback on her list and write a few unexpected blessing of my own. I think it is a great idea and so important to thank God for the things He has done for you.

Here is my list:

1. We had so much rain around our area this weekend which allowed me to stay home and get some much needed housework done. I cleaned my whole house, dusted, vacuumed and tackled the mountain of laundry that was piled high on my bedroom floor. I also was able to cook a few meals for the week which helps me stay one step ahead. Jake and I stayed in our pajamas all day and got ready in just enough time to have a fun family dinner at my moms. Yummy!

2. After we got home from church yesterday, Matt went and played a little football with some buddies and Jake and I stayed back and took a nap. We both slept for over 2 hours! I LOVE Sunday afternoon naps. They are the best ever! It is so refreshing to wake up and feel well rested.

3. This afternoon Matt called to let me know that his game was rescheduled to a home game which means he will be home earlier than what he originally thought! During sports season I mostly spend the evenings home by myself so it is a HUGE treat to have him home! And...since I cooked yesterday, dinner is already cooking! Even better!

4. This is the last week of school before SPRING BREAK! Yeah! Only 4 more days!
5. This is probably one of the sweetest blessings of all... Every evening around this time I get to cuddle with a sleeping baby. Jake is sound asleep on me right now. I look forward to this time everyday! I take in every moment with him!
Thank you God for MY blessings!

Some Good 'Ol Classics

This morning while I was on my way to school, I was listening to the Christian radio station. They were talking about how a movie of the classic t.v. show, "The Three Stooges" was going to be recreated. They wanted callers to comment on what classic t.v. shows they would like to star in. Now, I am not a big t.v. watcher at all. I don't have time to watch any and if I happen to have a few minutes in the evenings, I would rather just go to bed. However, if the t.v is on at my house it is usually on Nick at Night or TV Land. There are some good shows that I remember watching as a kid. I will catch them on from time to time.
Any one remember this little pistol? MR. WILSON!!!!!!! Can you hear him now?
One caller said that this is the show he would star in. I loved watching this show!
This is probably my all time favorite...
I probably have seen almost every episode. I have some favorites, but this one tops the list...

Ha ha ha! I am cracking up just thinking about that conveyor belt speeding up!

This is another one of my favorites. I catch this one on Saturdays sometimes. Matt was always compared to Eddie Haskell growing up:)! Could life have gotten any more perfect for this family? I know that all you ladies clean your house in a pretty dress just like June Cleaver, right? And of course you ALWAYS have a nice dinner made and on the table every night!

And who could forget about Mr. Ed, the talking horse!

Now this next show isn't quite as old, but it is the best ever! I have seen probably ALL of these shows...of course, The Cosby Show!
My Grandparents in Michigan taped I think just about every episode, so when we would go and visit we would sit and watch it for hours! My favorites are probably when Rudy's fish died and the family holds a funeral service for it and when they have to take Peter to the dentist and he is scared to death. Oh yeah, I also like the one where Cliff and Claire are sick in bed at the same time and they are getting their stairs worked on. Ha ha! Good stuff!
Ah, such good clean t.v. You can't say that about many shows today!
What are some of your favorite classic?

A Special Little Boy

Once a month our school holds a chapel service for all of us to attend. Our chapel consists of 3-5th grade students. This past Thursday we had a very special service in honor of this little guy. His name is Carter Cummings. This year our fourth grade students have "adopted" Carter and his family and have commited to pray for him. I will occasionally get e-mails about Carter's progress, but to meet and his family was extra special. Carter's dad, Jeremy, gave a little talk about what they have gone through for the past year or so. I don't know the whole story, but Carter was diagnosed with cancer shortly after his second birthday and they were told his prognosis was less than 50%. As of today, Carter is cancer free! They will continue to keep an eye on him to make sure Carter stays healthy! Praise the Lord!

Is he not the cutest?

As I sat and listened to Jeremy speak, my heart broke for them. I know that God is using their story for His glory, but I couldn't help but think what is must feel like for Wanda (Carter's mom). Now that I have a son, I couldn't imagine how she feels. To see your baby go through something so awful and not be able to do anything about it. Carter had more testing done after they left the service and they got another great report! Please take a moment and pray for this sweet family. I know that they would appreciate it so much!

The Best Birthday Bash!

Well, today is my 27th birthday! It actually was a super special day. Jake came to school today to have lunch with me! It was so fun and a sweet, sweet surprise to see him there. He was very intrerested and intreigued by all that was taking place in the school cafeteria! My students LOVE to see him. I got to feed him his lunch and give him tons of hugs and kisses!
It brightened up my day for sure!
XOXOXOXO!

Jake and Mommy eating lunch
This is Mrs. Snow and Mrs. Wilson. Mrs. Snow teaches in the classroom next to me. I love having her close by! Mrs. Wilson is our assistant and a complete blessing to me. She works so hard for us! Every time a person on our third grade team celebrates a birthday, we have a special lunch in their honor. Today we made my favorite, taco salad. Mrs. Wilson made a delicious pound cake for dessert. Everything was so yummy!
We were all stuffed!
Mrs. Bowman, Mrs. Bright and Mrs. Thrower are all a part of our team too! These ladies work hard everyday! We are so lucky to have each other!
After school was out, I finished up a few things around my classroom and then headed home where Matt was going to pick Jake and I up so we could eat a yummy dinner at the Olive Garden. I received a giftcard from one of my students which was a great treat. The Olive Garden is my favorite (especially when it is free)!

Matt, Jake and I ate until our tummys were stuffed! Since Matt doesn't eat salad, I ate the whole bowl all by myself!
Matt and Jake got me a gift certificate to a nail salon right by our house for a manicure and pedicure! I think I am going to hold onto it and use it over my spring break!

"Happy Birthday to you, mommy"!

Going Green!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
My students came in today proudly wearing all their green! Of course the goal of every third grader was to find someone not wearing green so they could pinch them! Ugh!
Last night Matt, Jake, and I ran out to Target to pick up a few things. We wanted to find
Mrs. Stacey (the lady that keeps Jake), a little St. Patrick's Day gift. I came across these Hershey kisses and let me tell you they are delicious! I am a big fan of mint chocolates and these just might be my favorite!
We stuck them in the fridge last night and have been snacking on them all afternoon! I hope they go on sale now that St. Patrick's Day is over and I can get a few more bags! Yummy!
Now I know this isn't going to be a big deal to all of you, but when I picked Jake up this afternoon, Mrs. Stacey gave me this...
Jake colored this clover for me! It is proudly displayed on my refrigerator and I LOVE it!
I am sure that he was more interested in eating the markers than he was coloring with them!

Happy 5 Months, Jake!

Today is my little Jake's 5 month birthday! I can't hardly believe it! He is so much fun! He has his two bottom teeth coming in and I think the top two are on their way! He is such a sweet, sweet baby and I LOVE being around him all the time. I can't get enough! He smiles and laughs all the time! My mom says that he is a jolly ol fellow!
We did a little photo shoot when we got home from church today so we could see how big he is!
Getting bigger every day!
Those big blue eyes are just precious!

Jake found his toes and LOVES to eat them! He has his new big boy Sunday shoes on. Yummy!

Jake also LOVES his daddy!
HAPPY 5 MONTHS, JAKE! Mommy loves YOU!

Buy Me Some Peanuts and Cracker Jacks!

The Lord has blessed Matt with a passion and a gift for coaching. He has been coaching for several years and has made a tremendous impact on so many kids lives. He just finished up his first season working with the high school basketball team at the school I teach at. They had a great season, but another has just begun...middle school baseball! He is now the head coach and is loving every minute of it. Today was their first game and they won 12-8!
Matt does a great job connecting with the players and their families.
After school, Jake and I picked up my sister Allison and we all went to cheer the boys on! The weather was beautiful!

Snowfall to Spring time!

These last few weeks have been very busy to say the least. Blogging has been the last thing on my mind! Plus my computer is a little slow, so to write a post takes quite a while. Ugh!
Where should I begin? Well, this time last week we were sitting in front of the t.v. waiting to see if snow storm #3 was going to come. I was waiting for the 3-6 inches of snow to start to fall. We didn't have to wait very long because it came and it came fast! We woke up to quite a snowfall which of course meant another snow day! Yippee! I love being able to have a surprise day like that to stay home with Jake! I always have the best time! What a blessing it has been. Most years we don't get a single flake and this year we have gotten 3 snow days out of it!
Since we are always on the go, we decided to stay home and hang out around the house. We only stepped outside for a quick photo of us in the snow.
Matt and Jake checking it out.

We were going to try to make some homemade snow cream, but we didn't catch enough snow in our bucket. As you can see here, Matt just offered Jake the real stuff. He really didn't know what to think of it other than that it was COLD!

This past week at school was pretty crazy too. We finished up our third quarter which means report cards are due. I spent Thursday afternoon entering in all those grades! Let me tell you, it is a task. I had to get them done though because I had a very special event to be a part of this weekend...the big wedding!

Congratulations to Eric and Marcy! She made such a gorgeous bride. She has been so patient waiting on the man the Lord had for her. Everything was just beautiful. It was such a perfect day (except for the small fire that occured during the reception...oops!). I am thankful for her and the friendship that we have. It is one of a kind!

Here is Angela and I enjoying ourselves at the reception.
I was sooo tired from the weekend and with the "spring forward" time change, it just about killed me! I did have to sneak in a little Sunday afternoon nap!

Today is such a gorgeous day that it is hard to believe that just a week ago we had our snowfall! We thought it would be fun to head to the park. We called up Matt's parents to see if they wanted to meet us. We had a fun time walking the track and seeing all the people out flying kites, riding bikes, playing football, soccer and enjoying time on the playground.
Jake had a great time too! I think he is going to LOVE being outside! Only 4 more weeks till spring break! Spring Fever has hit!
