Bed Rest And Noah's Ark

This past weekend Baby Jake tried to make an early appearance! I don't think I have complained to much about being pregnant except for the fact that my back kills me! Well, last Friday when I was at school the pain moved from my mid back to my lower back. It continued to get worse throughout the day. I tried everything to relieve the pain, but nothing was working. I thought I should just head to bed and see if it would feel better in the morning...not so much. We called the doctor first thing in the morning and he said to head on in. As soon as we got to the emergency room, they hooked me up to some machines and found out I was having contractions! Yikes! I had no idea! They gave me some medicine which slowed the contractions down. I stayed the night so they could continue to monitor me. The contractions never stopped, but they did slow down. I also found out that I was 2cm dilated and Baby Jake was all ready to come...6 1/2 weeks early! I never thought! I was sent home on bed rest to see if I could hold off just a little longer. They felt that he would be fine if he did come, but they wanted to see if he could get just a little bigger before we met him. With all that said, that's why there has been no blog update lately. I have been stuck on the couch with out much going on. I really just move from one end of the couch to the other while Matt has been trying to get things ready for Jake. This episode put us into panic mode because we have NOTHING ready for him to get here! We were thinking we were going to have a little more time!
Just about the only other thing I have been up to is watching the rain pour down outside! I think this morning is the first morning that I have come down and it has not been raining! I was just about to have to build an ark to get around here! Let me tell you, our area has been one of the hardest hit areas with all the rainfall! All the rainfall we have had forced the county schools to close yesterday! Matt and my brother Tim went out driving around a little bit yesterday and they couldn't believe what they saw. Major damage was done and it was all just a mile away from us! Here are some pics that we received yesterday from our neighbor.

These people are in our prayers! It all seems so unreal that this is just right around the corner from us while I am sitting here in my warm, dry house!

I go back to the doctor today for another check up to see how Baby Jake and I are doing. I am actually really excited. This will be the first time I have gotten to get out of the house since Monday! Hopefully I have seen the last of the bed rest! I am ready to head back to school and get back to my normal routine, at least for a few more weeks:)!

Wedding Shower!

Last night Matt and I went to a wedding shower for some good friends of ours, Brandon and April. Matt and Brandon have been good friends for several years. They met through church and have remained close for a very long time. Brandon and April will be getting married on October 4th. Matt will be standing up in their wedding (if he is not at the hospital:)!Brandon and April were set up by some of our other friends Lee and Amy and they have been together ever since!

This was the first of many showers for Brandon and April! They received lots of good things!
We were able to see and catch up a little with some of our old friends from our church from years past! It is always a fun time!
Here are some of my sweet friends, Lauren and Elizabeth! We all had fun celebrating Brandon and April!

First Day of Third Grade!

Well, today was the BIG day. I have been working so hard over the past two weeks preparing for all my new little pupils:)! Today was the first official day of school for us. Yes, we start a little earlier than most schools around here, but the benefit to that is we get out by mid May! It is great! Today actually went really well. As of now, I have 20 students in my class. This could possibly change as the school is continually testing new students to come in. I know at the beginning of the year everyone was anxious about the enrollment because of the economy, but the Lord has been faithful, once again, and has provided our school with more students than even last year (there is about 90 student enrolled in just the third grade)! I have 11 boys and 9 girls this year. They seem like a really sweet bunch of kids! We had to be a little flexible today because the weather was rainy all day which means no recess. But I had a few fun things up my sleeve, so we made it through just fine. This week is basically introducing them to third grade and teaching them all sorts of procedures. We are having a little fun with the Olympics going on. One of our new teachers this year is actually swimming in the Olympics, so we have all been tuned in! We can't wait for him to get to school and let us know what it was like!
I have a few papers to look over tonight (ugh...already) and then Matt has been cooking spaghetti for us for dinner! Yummy!

Have a good night (you know I won't be up late...it's a school night)!

Friday Night Sales!

Last night I met up with my friend Sarah for a night of sale shopping! She called me at the beginning of the week and asked if I wanted to go to this HUGE kids consignment sale at an arena just up the road from us. The sale opened to the public today, but because she was a first time mom, we got to pre-shop Friday night. She had heard great things about the sale so we were both very excited about going. She also let me know that we had to bring a laundry basket with a belt hooked on it to pull it because you get so much stuff you can't carry it all! Boy were they right! Our laundry baskets were overflowing. It was probably the only time in my life when I loved seeing an overflowing laundry basket! Sarah had a baby girl last October and of course our little guy is coming this October so we split for a while and met back up! We were just laughing at each other because we couldn't believe how full our baskets got! Everything was very nicely organized and very clean! They had everything there from books, toys and strollers to beds, clothes and rockers! I think they hold it again in the spring and since I will be a first time mom...we plan on hitting it up early again! What a fun night together!

Happy 27th Birthday, Matt!!

Today is Matt's 27th birthday! We have had a fun day celebrating with our families. This morning after we went to church we met up with his mom and dad at a really cool little restaurant for Sunday brunch. We were trying to think of a place that had a fun atmosphere and some place where we don't normally go. Pikes Soda Shop was the perfect choice! Matt and I had been there on a date a long time ago so we knew it was good. Pikes is especially known for their Sunday brunch. It is a little pricey, but we all ate until we couldn't eat anymore! We got to partake in the breakfast buffet plus the lunch buffet! My favorite was the blueberry and pecan french toast! Delicious! I would highly recommend you trying it out sometime!
Here we are all still smiling. By the time we got to the second and third plates, we weren't quite so smiley! But still...we ate:)
Matt and I outside Pikes for a quick picture! It was such a beautiful day!
After we got home from Pikes, we both went straight for a nap. Neither one of us could move. However we didn't have to long before we went to my families house for...yup, you guessed it...more food! My sister Kelly made one of Matt's favorite cakes. Yellow cake with chocolate frosting!
I think Matt let his cake settle for a bit and then jumped in the pool for a swim with Kelly, Tim and Allison. I think he had a great day!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABE! I LOVE YOU! I HOPE YOUR DAY WAS LOADS OF FUN!
HAPPY 27th TO YOU!

So Long Summer!

Well, my summer is quickly coming to an end. This is my last weekend before I head back to school. What a great summer it has been! We continued all the fun throughout the weekend and it is not over yet...
Friday I had another doctor's appointment. Once again it was just a check up to make sure things were looking good. I am now 30 weeks and still feeling good. I will say that I am starting to count down the last few weeks and not because I am not enjoying being pregnant, we are just so ready for him to get here! My sister Allison came with us to our appointment. We are starting to go every two weeks now. We heard his heartbeat loud and clear, measured my belly and got a few of our questions answered! Afterwards we headed to a fun little restaurant called Snoops. I had never been there before, but they serve some really good burgers! We had a great time hanging out with each other.

Friday night I met up with my mom for an amazing time at a Beth Moore simulcast broadcast at a church near by. Over 70,000 women were apart of the weekend! 714 churches were participating in the simulcast! Crazy! I have mentioned before how much I enjoy listening to her speak. This weekend was no exception. The worship was also fantastic! Of course it was led by Travis Cottrell. I think I have just about worn out the one and only CD that I have of his! We studied Luke chapter 8 this weekend together which is the parable of the sower. She talked about how to let God's Word have a "100-fold" impact on our lives! The seven points she gave were:
1. Treasure the Wonder-
We need to recapture the wonder of God's Word!
2. Protect Your Heart-
The Devil wants to steal the Word which will equip us and be life to us! Beware! We need to claim it as "OUR Word"! (Ps. 119:11)
3. Expect the Test-
We need to expect to be tested on the things God reveals to us through His Word. His Word will refine us!
4. Dig the Roots-
We need to be grounded in the truths of God's Word. We need to know that God loves each and every one of us!
5. Stop the Choke-
Anxiety chokes the Word right out of us (Phil. 4:6). We are called to be WARRIORS not WORRIERS! We also need to be sure to spend time with the Lord every day to got a fresh word from Him. The morning is the best time to sow our seed (Ecc. 11:6)! HIS MERCY IS NEW EVERY MORNING!
6. Retain the Word-
We need to possess it, own it! It is ours to have!
7. Press Forth To Your 100-Fold-
Persevere! Harvests do not come quickly!

Another special treat this weekend was that Matt and I went to hear the African Children's Choir perform at a local church. I had heard them once before, a very long time ago and thought Matt would love to hear them also because I know how much he loves kids. Just to hear their stories were amazing. Most of them have lost either one or both parents. They now tour with the choir which gives them a chance at a better life. They are provided with a place to go to school and live as well as the opportunity to hear the Gospel and live for Jesus. What a blessing they were to us. I knew that Matt would want to take them all home, but they made it clear that they were not up for adoption and needed to go back to Africa to make it a better place! I thought surely he would try to sneak at least one in the car with us! His favorite was a little boy named Edgar. He told us that when he grows up he wants to be a doctor! My favorite song that they sang was "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands". To worship with people in another language is something that will give you goose bumps! What a blessing we walked away with tonight. Here are some pictures that we were able to take. They are not the best, but maybe as you look you can take a minute and pray for these children and the amazing ministry that they have!
